Dental Implants - to replace missing teeth

Sparkling Dental based in Neutral Bay has a professionally qualified team to help you replace missing teeth with a dental implant Sydney.

A tooth implant is now a benchmark for replacing a single missing tooth. It is the most effective way of replacing single or multiple missing teeth. A titanium post is surgically positioned into the jaw bone and then a replacement tooth or teeth are placed on top.

A tooth implant has a biological interaction with the jaw bone where it fuses to it, providing permanent stable support for the artificial teeth on top. Unlike dentures, an implant won’t slip or shift in your mouth, which makes eating and speaking feel a lot more natural.

For some people, conventional bridge and dentures are simply not comfortable, or even possible. Unlike bridges, where teeth on either side of the gap are ground down to support the new replacement teeth, an implant does not need adjacent teeth for support. It does not touch teeth on either side of the gap.

However, you will need to have healthy gums and adequate bone to support an implant. This is why you need a consultation appointment with our dentist first, where we assess you and take records and have a scan done so we can treatment plan to the ideal for your implant placement.

Here at Sparkling Dental in Sydney, we use the longest researched, most trusted implant brand NobelBiocare, which was originally formed in 1978 in partnership with Professor Branemark who discovered osseointegration (fusing of titanium to bone), and thus founded dental implants. We use all genuine NobelBiocare parts.

At our Neutral Bay clinic, all practitioners and surgical nurses adhere to strict infection control and surgical protocols to provide the most optimal outcome for the patient, using digital surgical guides as required.

2 Easy Steps To Getting A Dental Implant

Surgery Stage:

Part 1: During implant surgery, your jawbone is prepared at the site where the missing tooth is. A titanium implant is then placed in that site. To protect the implant while it takes time to fuse to the bone, a post called a “healing abutment” is placed on top of the implant to protect it. During this healing period, you will see something looking like a silver button sitting on your gum. Most people don’t even notice or feel it in their mouth. In some cases, we can make a temporary tooth to mask the healing abutment.

Part 2: There are cases where the implant once placed, it needs to be totally buried in your jaw bone for osseointegration to take place. So a 2nd stage surgery is needed to connect the healing abutment to the original implant. This will help us to shape the gum.

Restorative Stage:

When the implant has stabilised, we take impressions to make the artificial tooth that goes on top of the implant. The end result is an aesthetically pleasing tooth replacement that looks and feels natural.

The Benefits of Having Dental Implants

Having missing teeth doesn’t just detract from your appearance, it can also make you more susceptible to gum disease and other oral health conditions. Dental implants have long been considered the optimal solution for tooth replacement, as they are a straightforward way to restore your smile and provide protection against disease. Dental implants closely replicate the appearance of real teeth, have a more than 95% success rate and are designed to last a lifetime. If you’ve been thinking about having dental implants and need a push over the edge, consider the following benefits.

Supports Bone Growth

Dental implants are designed to replicate your natural teeth, right down to the root. This means your jawbone gets the support and stimulation it needs to stay healthy and support natural bone growth. Without an implant, your jaw may continue to deteriorate, and you may experience changes to your facial structure.

Protection Against Tooth Decay

Because implants are placed directly into your jawbone, they help to support improved oral health outcomes. If you opt for bridges, you may experience sensitivity and tooth decay because the tooth preparation and planning process is more involved and dental bridges are more difficult to clean.

Enjoy Your Favourite Food Once Again

Missing teeth can make it difficult to enjoy your favourite foods, and in some cases you might be limited to soft foods due to the discomfort. Imagine experiencing the crisp crunch of biting into an apple after years of being not able to. With implants you can enjoy harder/crunchier foods without any concern, as it’s just like having your natural teeth back.

Improvement in Speech

Missing teeth can make it difficult to talk naturally, and it may also give your voice a “lisp” sound. This can cause people to lose confidence in their speaking ability, but implants will rectify these concerns and restore your normal voice.

Instantly Restore Your Smile

It doesn’t matter if you have a single gap or multiple, dental implants will provide an instant boost in self confidence by restoring your smile. If you were to leave the gaps as they are, you will be at an elevated risk of infection and periodontal disease. The other great thing about implants is that you can have some control over the width, length and overall appearance. This will all be discussed during your consultation, and we’re here to help you achieve an aesthetically pleasing outcome.

Lifetime Durability

Implants have a realistic appearance, and provided you keep up with your oral hygiene they can last a lifetime. Implants are a long-lasting tooth replacement solution which is well worth exploring.

Cost Effective

The initial cost of dental implants may seem high, but you should remember that this is a lifetime solution and will prove to be more cost-effective than dentures and bridges in the long run. Whilst sometimes crowns need to be replaced (generally after around 15 years), you can expect your implant to last a lifetime.
