If you are one of the millions of people with missing teeth, you understand the struggle of eating and speaking properly. Not only that, but missing teeth have an adverse effect on your oral and overall health. When you have gaps in your smile, you lose essential jawbone density and run the risk of your other teeth shifting into the empty spaces.

That’s why dental implants are considered the gold standard of tooth replacement. At Sparkling Dental, Dr Jenny Ling has been placing dental implants for many years, making her your trusted provider in Neutral Bay. Keep reading to learn more about replacing your missing teeth with dental implants.

What Is a Dental Implant?

A dental implant is a titanium post surgically placed into your jawbone. It acts as your tooth’s root and later holds a prosthetic tooth, usually a crown. Over several months, your dental implant fuses with your jawbone, giving it the strength and stability to withstand the force of normal biting and chewing.

The Dental Implant Process

Dr Jenny Ling will conduct a thorough consultation and examination to determine your candidacy for dental implants. If you are eligible, you can expect the following stages:

Surgery stage – During this stage, Dr Ling will surgically place the titanium post into your jawbone. She will then add an abutment on top of the implant to protect it while it integrates with your jaw. Finally, she may add a temporary restoration until your jaw heals.

Restorative stage – Once your implant has stabilised, Dr Ling will take impressions of the area so an artificial tooth can be made to go on top of the implant.

After the artificial tooth has been added, your smile will be restored, and you can once again eat your favourite foods and look forward to being in pictures.
