What to Expect During a Root Canal
If your dentist has observed signs of infection within your teeth, they may recommend root canal therapy (endodontic treatment). During your root canal procedure, you will receive a dose of local anaesthetic. Your dentist will then identify the affected tooth before removing the infected pulp and nerve. The site is then cleaned and disinfected before a synthetic material is used to seal the space. A dental crown is generally then placed on the tooth to restore its function and add protection.
Is It Painful?
Most people do not feel any pain during the root canal treatment as it is performed under anaesthesia. You may feel a slight sense of discomfort or minor pain for a few days post-treatment, however you may take pain relief medication to manage this.

Root canal treatment is often the only way to stop infection whilst saving the tooth.
